Second Star to the Right: City with No Sky

This is going to be short and sweet, because I can't be asked to write long paragraphs in this internet point. There is nothing wrong about it, it's just that I can feel the tic-tac of the time that passes and every half an hour someone asks me if I want another half an hour and I can't concentrate. I know, the horror, right? Anyway, if I am not writing much I better stop blahblahing about the internet and start writing about something else. The city of the title is - surprise, surprise - Lima! Why? You'll ask.. (I mean, I am sure you're asking, aren't you?) Well, the city is not built underground, but it's as if it were. The sky has been a dull grey colour throughout the whole month that I have been here. I have never seen a piece of blue sky, let alone the sun or the moon or even a star here. This "natural" (well, not so natural actually..) roof that covers the city is a mixture of pollution and clouds, with the occasional drizzle that here they have the gouts to call rain. But today, miracle! The sun came out!! And the sky! It was almost all blue! Almost! It must be the consequences of yesterday's earthquake. A wave that made me feel like I was back in Japan. Back to Lima though, I have to say that it's not the most wonderful city I have ever seen, but it has some nice sights nonetheless. The city centre for example, with beautiful Spanish buildings and the huge Plaza de Armas. Then every now and then there's a palace that looks like Versailles or the massive statue of an Inca chief, and museums that are worth of a capital city. But most of the city is a bunch of small, unfinished houses with bricks on the view and rubbish everywhere. It is as if in a city the third world has met Europe. Pictures will help you, well.. picture this! And that will happen as soon as I have an internet connection in the house. I should have one in Guatemala, my friend Samuele said, even though he says it's slow, it'll be better than here. So, will write again from Central America, I guess! ¡Hasta luego!

Questa entrata sará corta e veloce perché non sopporto di scrivere paragrafi lunghi in questo internet point. Non c'é niente di sbagliato con questo posto, é solo che sento il ticchettio del tempo che passa e ogni mezz'ora mi vengono a chiedere se voglio un'altra mezz'ora e non mi lasciano concentrare. Lo so, che orrore, vero? Comunque, visto che non scriveró tanto é meglio se la pianto di parlare di internet e mi metto a scrivere di qualcosa di serio. La cittá del titolo é (sorpresa, sorpresa) Lima! E non é senza cielo perché é costruita sotto terra, ma é come se lo fosse. Per tutto il tempo che sono stata qui la volta celeste é stata di un grigio plumbeo e deprimente. Non ho mai visto un pezzo di cielo azzurro, né il sole, la luna o le stelle. Questa cappa "naturale" (bé, non cosí naturale a dire il vero) é un insieme di inquinamento e nubi con occasionali perdite di acqua che pare impigliata nell'aria e che qui hanno il coraggio di chiamare pioggia. Ma oggi, MIRACOLO! Il sole é apparso ed il cielo era quasi tutto azzurro. Quasi tutto.. Deve essere una conseguenza del terremoto di ieri. Una scossa che mi ha fatta sentire come se fossi stata di nuovo in Giappone. Tornando a Lima, peró, non é la cittá piú bella che io abbia mai visto, ma ha dei posti molto interessanti. Il centro cittá per esempio, con gli edifici spagnoli e la gigantesca Plaza de Armas. Poi, qua e lá, ci sono palazzi alla Versailles o statue di capi Inca, e musei degni di una capitale di un paese. Ma la maggior parte della cittá é un insieme di casettine non finite con ancora i mattoni a vista, e con spazzatura nelle strade. É come se in una cittá il terzo mondo si fosse scontrato con l'Europa. Delle foto vi aiuterebbero ad immaginarvi la situazione, ma da qui non posso proprio. In Guatemala, il mio amico Samuele mi dice, hanno una connessione internet, per quanto lenta, nell'hogar, quindi con un po' di fortuna vi basterá aspettare che arrivi in centro America per avere foto e aggiornamenti! ¡Hasta luego!
